Designing the Business Card

Now we have our document ready for the designing, we’ll start designing and I’ll show you which elements are necessary for a Business card and you can customize them and make your own design at any time.

Necessary Elements for Any Business card Design

For designing a Business card you should have these elements on it your design:

  • Logo of Organization
  • Name of Person or Organization of which you are designing Business Card
  • Occupation of that Person in that Organization
  • Complete Address
  • Phone No.
  • Email
  • Website
  • You can also use Tagline if you want.

These are some necessary elements you should add to your Business card. You can design in any manner you want.

Creating Back of Business Card in Photoshop

We’ve learned the necessary elements of any Business card and now we have to design a Card using those elements and any other elements for designing like shapes and pictures.

First, we’ll design the back of our Business card and this is the place where all the details are written. We’ll design all in Safe Area.

Step 1: Adding Background Color

First of all, we’ll have to add a background color for our Business card, and for that, I’m using a Light Grey White color and we’ll take a light Black color on the Back of the Card to make it look elegant as well as professional.

For that go to Layers Panel Create a Solid color adjustment layer and take the Color Code: e6e6e6.

You can use any color it’s just for this simple but elegant design.

Step 1: Adding Background Color

Step 2: Adding Name and Occupation (Position)

Now after adding the Background color we have to add the name of the person and then his position in the Organization.

For that, I’m using Montserrat Font and with the help of The Text tool write any name.

Make the First name of the person Bold and the Last name regular, this will make it more professional as it creates a hierarchy in your design.

Then add another text with the help of the text layer and write the occupation of the person and make it smaller and place it below the full Name as I’ve done in the example.

You can use all Caps characters as it makes the design more elegant.

Adding Name and Occupation (Position)

Step 3: Adding Address, Phone No. and Other Contact Details

As the business card is mostly used for contacting the person at the right time so we have to add the Address of the person or organization the email of the person and then the website name.

You can add as many details as you want but for this example, I’m keeping it simple for your ease.

Place these details one after one and do not make them all caps.

Designer Tip: Make sure to use only one font with different weights in your entire design so that your design should not look unprofessional.

Adding Address, Phone No. and Other Contact Details

Step 4: Adding some elements for Designing

To change this simple design to look more interesting we can use different elements like shapes and stuff on the design but for your ease, I’m just using the logo of the company on the right side of the design.

Make it bigger and decrease its Opacity to about 20-30%.

You can also make your logo Black and White by going to Layers Panel and making a Black & White Adjustment layer on the top of the logo.

For this design, you can see we haven’t added some fancy stuff, shapes, and elements but our design still looks cool and elegant as well as professional for business use.

We are done with the Back Side of our Card.

Adding some elements for Designing

It’s important to save your progress before moving on to create the back portion. Go to File > Save or press Control + S on your keyboard.

Creating the Document for the Front Part of the Business Card

We won’t be creating a new document this time.

Instead, we will be duplicating the back part to save the hassle of setting up the document again.

Go to Image > Duplicate. Name this new document Business-Card-Back and press OK.

Creating the Document for the Front Part of the Business Card

Then First of all Deletes all Layers of the Front Side in this new Document.

Step 1: Adding Background Color

Again, we are not trying for anything elaborate for the Front Part; all we need to do is add a logo and a larger, low-transparency black and white logo. Let’s start by adding a background color. You can include any texture or pattern; however, I’m only using one.

For that go to Layers Panel Create a Solid Color adjustment layer and take the Color Code: 181818.

You can use any color it’s just for this simple but elegant design.

 Adding Background Color

Step 2: Adding Logo

Now we just have to drag and drop our logo in the center of the document and resize it according to your will.

Adding Logo

Then duplicate this logo and make the duplicated logo bigger.

Change its opacity to about 7 to 10% and you can make it black and white as well by going to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate.

Make sure the bigger logo layer should be below the main logo layer in the layers panel.

Now the Front Part of our Business Card is ready also!
